How everything begins
Mehmet Öncel Sr., the family's first generation representative, was foundational in the family's first step into this sector by manufacturing and selling hand-woven carpets in Niğde.
Family’s first Hand-made carpet store

Kemal Öncel Sr. was a child when his father Mehmet Öncel passed away. He came from Niğde to Ankara by carrying his father’s legacy of handmade carpets. He opened his first store in Samanpazarı.
Öncel Hardware Store & Trade Center
60'
In the 1960s, he opened his first hardware store on Posta Street in Ulus and provided services to customers from all over Turkey. In the 1970s, he launched his FlagShip Building, which is a trade center in Ulus.
Birko yarn & Samur carpet & Middle East Bearing factory
70' - 80'
In order to create employment for his country and the city of his birth, Niğde, this time he brought his fellow countrymen together with his friends and established the multi-partner Birko yarn factory in Niğde. He took part in the management of the Birko yarn factory, which still continues its operations in the Turkish market. This has been a big step for both his career and the people of Niğde. Later on, he continued his activities in the field of industry as being the founding partner and member in the board of directors of various industrial organizations, such as Samur Wall-to-wall Carpet and Middle East Bearing factories.
Polmen

Deciding to continue his investments with his own family, Kemal Öncel left his other partner companies and established the POLMEN upholstery and drapery fabric factory, one of the few integrated facilities in Turkey, together with his sons.
Domo & Beaulieu of America carpet Turkey distributorship

The third generation representatives of the family, Mehmet and his brother Ünal Öncel, obtained the Turkey's regional distributorship of Domo Carpets and Beaulieu of America Inc., the most well-known carpet manufacturers of the time.
American Carpet

Having started as an importer for the wall-to-wall carpet industry, the brothers later established American Carpet, a wall-to-wall carpet factory in Ankara. It has reached many dealers across Turkey with its six local dealers and abroad with its own export team.
End of an era

With its companies, POLMEN and American Carpet, between 1994 and 2012, they participated in HeimTex, DomoTex, Index and Decosit fairs in total, numbering over 40. In addition to many hotel projects completed in Turkey and abroad, they exported more than 4.2 million meters of fabric and more than 3.8 million meters of carpets. They have cooperated with a number of well-known companies, such as Marks & Spencer, Kravet, John Richard, MCA, Al Jeddahi, Fabricut, and have been the fabric and carpet supplier of these companies for many years.

2014
MOTTA Design was founded in 2014 by Öznur and Kemal Öncel, who are the fourth generation representatives of this family. Benefiting from the knowledge and experience of their father, Mehmet Öncel, they set out to create a new breath in the textile industry by developing their own training and business models.
Öznur Öncel
Öznur Öncel graduated from Bilkent University Faculty of Business Administration, and as soon as she graduated, she took charge of both MOTTA Design's board of directors and head of the foreign trade department. She is responsible of trade and logistics process optimization of our company's foreign sales and applications, also provides consultancy to different companies as a foreign-trade expert.
Kemal Öncel
Kemal Öncel Jr. graduated from METU Civil Engineering Department and started working on construction projects right after he graduated. While working as a Quality Control and Quality Assurance Specialist in The Peninsula Istanbul hotel project, he also completed the Construction Management Master's program at Boğaziçi University. At the end of his study period, he left The Peninsula Istanbul to continue his education at the GLION Institute of Higher Education, which is one of the world's leading universities in Switzerland. He has completed his Master's degree in Luxury Brand Management and Customer Experience to supplement his knowledge of The Peninsula philosophy. He is currently working at MOTTA Design as the manager of the business development department and a member of the board of directors, responsible of hotel project clients.
In the begining
2020
Initially serving only projects in Ankara, MOTTA Design has became a solution partner for a number of hotels and large-scale projects in Turkey between 2014 and 2017.
Our Sample Projects
2021
MOTTA Design realized the first renovation contracting business with Sheraton Hotel and Latanya Hotel in Ankara. In 2021, it started to take part in renovation projects as a company.

Now
As MOTTA Design, we have completed more than 35 hotel projects textile contracting, 10 renovation (fit-out) contracting, 2 fit-out contractors' textile consultancy and 3 group companies' textile consultancy. In addition to these projects, we have completed nearly 100 private housing projects with retail sales. Now we are investing in a new business model. In textile, renovation fit-out and consultancy projects, by offering production, supply, sales and application together with our vast knowladge, we have became an innovative solution partner for customers.

MOTTA Design is currently the official drapery works contractor of The Peninsula Istanbul Hotel, in addition to that we are the carpet tile supplier of the office areas.
